Before you collect a self-drive car, you need the right papers. This is what we ask for, what visitors from abroad need on top, and which permits you need for Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. The car is the Suzuki Ertiga 7-seater, and the booking is on the self-drive car page.
Visitors from India
There's no age limit. You need a valid driving licence, the original plus a photocopy, for the vehicle category you're booking. Our car is a manual, so bring a licence that covers a car.
Visitors from abroad
You can rent any of our vehicles. Bring:
- your passport with a valid Indian visa,
- your home driving licence, and
- an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your own country, in the 1949 Geneva Convention format, covering the vehicle you're renting.
Indian law doesn't accept a foreign licence on its own. You can pay in cash (rupees) or by international UPI. Renting a bike or car in Northeast India as a foreign visitor goes through the whole process.
Permits for Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland
All our vehicles may go to Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. Indian visitors need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) for Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, and we help you apply. Tell us your dates when you book. Visitors from abroad need a Protected Area Permit (PAP) for those two states instead, which we can help arrange on request. See the Arunachal Inner Line Permit for a road trip and the Northeast permits for foreigners.
Deposit and booking
We don't take a security deposit on the vehicle. Instead we collect a deposit covering a full tank of fuel, and settle it when you return the car. Any advance you pay to confirm a booking is non-refundable.
