Planning for the 2026–27 season

• When it's open: the park opens for the season after the monsoon and stays open until about April; it closes during the monsoon floods, when wildlife moves to higher ground. Check the official opening date before you book.
• Where to stay: Kohora, by the Central Range gate, is the main base, with stays and safari bookings. Arrive by early afternoon for an afternoon safari.
• Safaris: jeep safaris run in the morning and afternoon in several ranges (Central, Western, Eastern); elephant safaris are early in the morning. Book ahead in peak season (December to February), through the park's official booking.
• Inside the park: private vehicles aren't allowed. Leave your car at the gate and take the park's safari jeep.

Getting there from Guwahati

It's a little over 220 km on NH27 via Nagaon, about 4 to 5 hours on a flat highway.
