The Bajaj Pulsar N160 is the bike we'd put you on for a multi-day trip when you want more power than a 125 or 150cc bike. This is what it is, who it suits and what renting it involves. Price and booking are on the Bajaj Pulsar N160 page.

What it is

A 164.82cc fuel-injected bike with a 5-speed gearbox. It has disc brakes front and rear with dual-channel ABS, gold upside-down front forks, a split seat and an engine guard. It seats two, and we give a helmet for you and your pillion.

Who it suits

  • Multi-day trips with hill climbs and wet descents. The extra power helps on the climbs with a pillion and luggage, and ABS on both wheels helps on wet hill roads and steep descents. Shillong to Dawki, a Cherrapunji loop, or the long road to Tawang.
  • Tawang, for confident riders. It's about 480 km, usually over two days via Bhalukpong, Bomdila, Dirang and Sela Pass. You'll need an Arunachal Pradesh Inner Line Permit (ILP), and we help you apply. See the Tawang route guide and which bike for a Tawang and Northeast trip.
  • Two people. It has a split seat with a proper pillion seat. With two people and bags, keep the luggage light and strapped down.

Who should pick another bike

For the city only, a lighter bike is just as good: the Honda SP 125 is smooth and simple, and the Yamaha FZ-S FI V2 is our hill all-rounder. For the biggest rides with luggage, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.

Riding it from Guwahati

Shillong is about 100 km up NH6; the Shillong route guide has the road and the stops.
