The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is a big bike, and it isn't the right one for every ride. This is what it is, who it suits and what renting it involves. Price and booking are on the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 page, and the rest of the range is under adventure bikes on rent in Guwahati.
What it is
A 452cc liquid-cooled adventure tourer with a 6-speed gearbox. It has disc brakes with dual-channel ABS (switchable at the rear), a 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, both spoked, and a 17-litre tank. Ours has crash guards and a rear rack for luggage. It seats two.
Who it suits
- Two riders with luggage. It's built for long days two-up, and the engine pulls without fuss on hills where a smaller bike has to work hard.
- Tawang and the high passes. Tawang is about 480 km via Bhalukpong, Bomdila, Dirang and Sela Pass, usually over two days. It needs an Arunachal Pradesh Inner Line Permit (ILP), and we help you apply.
- Long Northeast rides. Ziro, and a week across Meghalaya with a pillion and bags.
On the rack, use soft bags that strap on, keep the weight low and carry warm layers for the passes.
Who should pick a lighter bike
It's taller and heavier than a commuter bike. If you've mostly ridden 125 to 160cc bikes, take it easy on the first day, or pick something lighter for the city. For Meghalaya the Royal Enfield Scram 440 is lower and easier to handle. Royal Enfield Scram 440 or Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 for Tawang? goes through the difference.
Riding it from Guwahati
Plan Tawang as a two-day ride each way, and read which bike for a Tawang and Northeast trip and the Guwahati to Tawang route guide. It's also the bike we'd pick to ride to the Hornbill Festival two-up with luggage.

Can I ride the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 from Guwahati to Tawang? Yes, it's the bike we'd pick for it. Tawang is about 480 km, usually over two days, and you'll need an Arunachal Pradesh ILP, which we help you apply for.
Do I need experience to ride it? It's taller and heavier than a commuter bike, so it suits riders who are comfortable on bigger bikes, especially for hairpins and riding two-up. If you've mostly ridden 125 to 160cc bikes, take it easy on the first day.
Is it comfortable for two people with luggage? Yes. It's built for long days two-up, and the engine has power to spare at altitude. It has a rear rack and crash guards. Keep the luggage strapped down and the weight low.
How much is it for a week? ₹15,744 for 7 days with the long-rental discount, against ₹2,499 a day.
The information in this post is indicative. Final terms and policies are discussed and confirmed when you take the vehicle on rent.
