Notes on the stops
Kamakhya Temple. Our pickup in Maligaon is about 5 km away, so it's the natural first stop. Go early, before the queues build. The ride up Nilachal Hill is short and easy on a scooty. Our Kamakhya Temple by scooty or bike guide has the details.
Umananda Island and the riverfront. Park near Kachari Ghat and take the short ferry to Umananda. Afterwards, the riverfront at Uzan Bazar is the best place in the city for sunset.
The old town. Dighalipukhuri, the Assam State Museum and the Pan Bazar bookshops are close together. Park once and walk.
East side. Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra and Basistha Temple are on the city's south-eastern edge; pair them in one ride.
Deepor Beel. A wetland on the city's western edge, known for its birds, especially in winter. Take binoculars.
A simple one-day plan

Riding in Guwahati: tips
- Avoid office-hour traffic in the city centre if you can; mornings and early afternoons are easier.
- Park where you're directed at temples and ghats, and lock the steering.
- Helmets are compulsory, and ours come with the scooty.
- Carry water and a rain jacket; showers can come out of nowhere in summer.
